Sony Walkman NWZ-E384 Off, On, Charged
Showing a Sony Walkman NWZ-E384 when it's off, after it's been used for a while to play music and videos, and while it's being charged. Totally done for curiosity's sake and not scientific -- that and to make someone feel better about spending all that money on an infrared camera. The headphones used were Sennheiser Momentum Over-Ears. In some shots, the Walkman and headphones had just been handled by warm hands, so some of the brighter spots may have been due to body heat transfer -- the headphones had been worn on a head for almost an hour.

Fun fact: someone hadn't had a chance to use the Walkman or headphones for a while. Filming this gave a pretty good excuse to turn them on for the first time in quite a bit. And back on the shelf they went after everything was said and done. They were originally bought to use at the office and that was actually done for a period of time. Both items worked very well. However, the idea of leaving such expensive headphones at work bugged me for a while. It took some mental preparation to be able to just leave them in an unlocked drawer.

Maglite Solitaire LED Flashlight

A Turned On Maglite Solitaire LED Flashlight
A flashlight, specifically a Maglite Solitaire with an LED bulb, that has been turned on for a while. It was probably on for about ten minutes before being filmed. The "inspiration" behind the video was that I was using it one time and noticed that the area around the head was warmer than the body -- it had been on for at least a couple minutes. I think I was looking at a few things in detail and the lighting wasn't adequate.

Just in case you're curious about some minor details, there was a rechargeable AAA battery being used in it. Not sure about the charge level. It came in the package charged already, no idea how long it had been sitting on a shelf. Regardless, the battery was relatively new to me at the time.

I actually still have a working incandescent version of the Maglite Solitaire from years ago. Might have to go shoot that one in the future. The logistics might be a problem in that I got rid of a lot of batteries recently and don't think I have any spares lying around -- could always cannibalize the one in the Solitaire LED.
