Infrared: Dumbbells and Light Bulbs

An Arm with a Dumbbell at the End
Dumbbell and an Arm
It's an arm. The arm has a dumbbell attached to it. And the arm moves at the joints so that the dumbbell moves up and down. This goes on for a while and then it stops.

This was a bit of a filler video. Everything was hooked up, so I tried to think of some random thing to film using readily available objects lying around. A dumbbell was the most convenient and exciting thing that I could come up with. There was hope that something interesting would show up or happen, but I don't think anything really happened. The act of filming didn't yield any interesting results either. For example, there was no injury to the arm from the 10 lb neoprene coated dumbbell. And everything was returned to its proper place when all was said and done.

It was shot at 2:00am in the morning, so maybe the best ideas aren't hatched that early or late? One more thing to note: the arm was slightly out of focus because the focus was set a bit further back around where the rack was. Autofocus didn't come with the camera -- it would have cost a lot more to get one with autofocus.
Round CFL Light Bulb after about ~5 minutes
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb in Infrared
A round compact fluorescent light bulb being turned on and allowed to heat up. Believe it or not, this was a CFL bulb, just one with a round shell instead of the looped tube type. It had a frosted shell so I wasn't sure if there were any tubes inside -- I saw some with tubes visible under the shell in stores before.

Anyway, the bulb hadn't been turned on for probably a day, at least, so it should have been around room temperature when it was finally turned on. The 5 minute estimate was just that, an estimate, because no timer was set to accurately record the time at which each segment of video was taken from -- yes, the video timer, but someone forgot exactly when the bulb was first turned on. One more important note: this was a 7W-ish bulb that was a couple years old and well used.

A similar video had previously been done with a newer LED bulb. The bulb had a different shape with a different color profile when shot with an infrared camera.

Reminder: Temperatures are not accurate.
