(Spoilers) Dredd Review

***SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers may be found in the post below about VARIOUS ITEMS. And I'm going to add in a bit of filler text here to limit how much of the main article gets shown in a preview. That should take care of most of it. Hopefully. And away we go. SPOILER WARNING. ***

Not Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stalone but Dredd with Karl Urban.

Overview
Dredd and his partner get trapped in an apartment complex and have to shoot their way out. It's set in the future, based on a comic? Action.

Good or Bad?
The movie was about a law enforcement official who, while assessing a prospective judge (Olivia Thirlby), got trapped in a giant apartment complex by a criminal (Lena Headey). It was the criminal gang's lair/hideout so it was filled with bad people. Both judges went about shooting things up one floor at a time.

Aside from the first Judge Dredd movie with Sylvester Stalone, I knew nothing about the books or comics that the movie was supposedly based on before watching this. How did the two movies compare, anyway? If my memory serves me right -- it's been a long time since I saw the older movie -- this version appeared to be a lot more serious, a lot darker, and with much more gore. I think there was much more comic relief in the older version. The newer Dredd was the one I preferred though.

What to say about this movie... The actors all did their job and I enjoyed it. Speaking of acting, Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby worked together pretty well on screen in my view. I don't remember Karl showing his entire face once during the movie. Lena Headey was interesting as the bad guy -- I saw a bit of her in Game of Thrones before watching this movie, but I mainly knew her from the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles show as a good guy. Anyway, Dredd was an action movie. There was a lot of violence and a lot of pretty special effects. A lot of death sentences were handed out. Kind of seemed like a video game going one level or floor at a time. I found it to be very entertaining, would watch again.
